February 2008 Newsletter
Dear all,
Firstly, Congratulations to the Under 12’s on getting through to the FINAL of the Supplementary Cup! A great achievement for the team! Well deserved boys. Good luck in the final! It would be great to see many of our players and supporters around on the day to watch and encourage the team, who are still top of their League! The U12’s are also in the final of the Halifax Cup. Keep it up guys – you are getting us noticed! U13’s & U15’s will be playing in the Halifax Cup rounds very soon.
To our U13’s who got beat in the semi-final – well done guys – you put up a good fight!
Recently you will have read about the run we are doing to raise funds for Hannah Cockroft – our 2012 Olympics contender! A total of 13 applications have been sent for our participating in the Run for Jane on 22nd June. Please consider sponsoring one of our runners (a few are walking). It’s for a great cause. The runners are – Jason MacDonald, Stuart Varley, Lee Amos, Michelle Amos, Gary Waldron, Alison Waldron, Peter Richardson & his partner Yvonne, Graham Horner, Mick Lovelady, Chris Younas, Nigel Sutcliffe & Martin Wolstenholme. A wide range from within our Club & outside also! Thanks for “volunteering” guys! You did all agree – at some point. Witnesses were around…
It is coming to the end of this playing season. As a committee we will soon be preparing for the end of season presentations. Please could all shields that were awarded last year be returned to your team coaches as soon as possible? Trophies that were received with the shields are for the players to keep.
The Under 8’s played a very successful curtain raiser before the Halifax RLFC v Melbourne Storm match on 22nd January coming out winners in a 40-12 derby against Brighouse. Thank you to all who came to support the team – from as far away as Dorset! Guys you must have such a reputation for relatives to travel so far! Keep it up. The Under 8’s, so you are all aware, are still UNBEATEN this season!
We are currently ordering raffle tickets so we can hold a “grand draw”. Tickets will be given to every player in the club to sell and return the ticket stubs with the monies. This season we haven’t, as a Club, done any major fundraising and so do need you to support this draw and help sell the tickets. We are also looking for prizes. Letters have been sent to local businesses requesting donations. If any of you are able to donate a prize also this would be gratefully appreciated. Tickets will be distributed as soon as they are ready.
Should any of you have any news please let us know – we’ll send word out!
