March 2008 Newsletter
Dear all,
We hope you had a very enjoyable Easter – and enjoyed the weekend off!
For the older teams – Under 12’s, 13’s & 15’s who all play in competitive leagues; there are now backlog fixtures to be played which will involve Wednesday evening matches. Please bear with us. The final weekend fixtures can be played is the first weekend in May.
Under 8’s – Under 11’s are playing in festivals the weekend of 11th/12th April. These may be your final fixtures. Coaches will advise you all as usual.
Cup final dates have been confirmed as –
6th April – Under 12’s Supplementary Cup v Clayton. 10.15 kick off at Emley Moor. This is a huge achievement for the U12’s – who are still top of their League. Keep it up guys. It would be great to have supporters from all age groups within the Club at the final. The Under 12’s have new polo shirts on order for wear after the final, very kindly sponsored by The New Inn – Mount Tabor. Thank guys!
20th April – Under 12 Halifax Cup Final v Siddal at Old Crocs. 11.00 KO.
The Under 13’s & Under 15’s are to commence playing in the Halifax Cup next week.
(There are only 2 teams at U12 level so both are in the final)
We have been advised that we are secure at Illingworth for next season. Work has commenced on getting the Tar Hill pitch ready for play.
Service Area selections for the Calderdale squads are currently ongoing. We will advise of all our players who get selected. Good luck to all taking part in the trial stages. Games for the Service Area commence on 10th May.
Plans are being made for the end of season presentation/fun day. This is to be held for the whole Club on 1st June at Illingworth. There are health and safety rulings about numbers in the Clubhouse but plans are for the event to be held outside with a bar-be-que. A fundraising raffle is also to be held. Tickets will be given to all players to sell away from the Club and return the ticket stubs/funds. Donations are now being requested. All will be kindly accepted. Please, if you can provide a prize, pass it on to Vicky MacDonald. Thank you. Further details will be advised about the day as and when information becomes available.
Could those players who won Major Awards last season please return the shields to your coaches as soon as possible. The trophies are yours to keep.
One of our players, Lewis Sutcliffe who plays for our Under 15’s unfortunately had a very serious injury recently. He broke his neck! Thankfully he was seen by a top surgeon at Leeds who specialises in sports injuries. Lewis has had a titanium plate put in his neck and is now mobile. Obviously he will have to take it steady so won’t be back on the pitch this season – Although he has told his coach that he can play again next season!!! We’ll see how that progresses Lewis – for now look after yourself. As a Club we will be making a donation to Lewis to aid his recovery. We are sure you will all agree Lewis is a very lucky guy who deserves our support!
A bit of Open Age news – the first team last weekend beat Sharlston – their main competitor! Well done to the whole team. It was a very close game. The second team are in a final against Siddal on 10th May. Again it would be good to have people from all aspects of the Club around.
The applications for the 13 volunteers who are walking/running the Leeds 10K in June have been acknowledged. So guys – there is no backing down now! Training will be commencing soon! For anyone who hasn’t sponsored one of these guys yet – Vicky MacDonald will always have a sponsor form with her. The run is being done to raise funds for Hannah Cockroft – our Olympic contender. Did you see Hannah in the Evening Courier or the Yorkshire Post this month? There is already further interest to publish Hannah’s story. Keep it up Hannah – we are all behind you!
We have been advised that the wearing of the high visibility “respect” jackets by match officials is now being enforced. Anyone on the pitch without a jacket on is liable to a fine. We as a Club WILL NOT be paying these fines. Please remain behind the touchline at all times.
With it coming to the season end we as a Committee are already looking to the new season. All roles are up for election. If you are interested in taking on a role within the Club please, please let us know. We need volunteers to take on small roles. Please consider giving a small amount of your time to aid the running of the Club. Thank you.
Should any of you have any news please let us know – we’ll send word out!
Here’s to continuing with a great season!
