Sunday 30th March 2008
King Cross Park u8s 0 - Halifax Irish u8s 50
Newly formed King cross U8’s battled bravely against their more experienced opponents and twice were stopped inches from the line preventing them from scoring. Irish started to throw the ball about, Ben Sutcliffe was directing play and he sent Lyndon Sutcliffe racing through a gap who in turn released the supporting Callum Pilling who rounded the King cross defenders to score the pick of the Irish tries. Ben Burrows and Jude Corcos stood out for Irish in defence and Burrows was rewarded for his efforts when his strong running enabled him to shrug off two defenders to score. King Cross came back strongly but they found it hard going against their bigger opponents Lyndon Sutcliffe in particular, who ran in four well taken tries for Irish, and Max Balfour who scored his first try in only his third game of rugby league. Ben Sutcliffe then went on a weaving run to the try line to score, and after a King Cross knock on Harry Lovelady and Callum Pilling then combined to send Jude Corcos to score the final try of the game.

Queensbury U8s 20 - Halifax Irish U8s 52
In freezing conditions both teams tried to play fast open rugby, with Irish coming out on top.
After good work from Max Balfour, Callum Pilling darted through a gap to open up the scoring. Irish were starting to throw the ball about and Lyndon Sutcliffe put Callum Pilling in for his second. Andrew Amos and Harry Lovelady were working hard in defence to keep Queensbury from scoring and when the Queensbury player lost the ball over the Irish try line Lyndon Sutcliffe was first to react and raced the length of the field to score the first of his two tries. Ben Sutcliffe was on top form for Irish weighing in with 23 Tackles and helping himself to four well taken tries. Finley Waldron was rewarded for all his hard work with a well taken try where he stepped the approaching defenders to race away to score.
Queensbury never gave up trying and were rewarded for their efforts with some well taken tries, but the last two tries of the game went to man of the match Callum Pilling who took his total on the day to four.

Halifax Irish u8s 28 - Brighouse Rangers u8s 24
Irish and Brighouse served up another thriller with Irish just edging it at the finish. Brighouse started strongly powering away at the Irish line and good defence from Jude Corcos and Andrew Amos wasn’t enough to stop Brighouse from scoring. Irish came back strongly but good tackling resulted in a knock on and Brighouse scooped the ball up to score in the corner. Irish started to get some momentum and after Fin Waldron and Ben Burrows had made good ground Lyndon Sutcliffe burst through to score the first of his two tries. Max Balfour having his first game for the Irish was causing Brighouse problems and after his powerful run, Callum Pilling was able to round the defence to score. Again Brighouse came back and after strong runs they passed the ball out wide to score in the corner making it all level at half time.
Ben Sutcliffe scored the next two tries for the Irish bursting through then rounding the covering defenders to score. Brighouse then replied with a well taken try Before Irish scored the try of the game, Lyndon Sutcliffe slipping the ball out of a two man tackle to the supporting Callum Pilling who raced away to score. Brighouse set up a anxious last couple of minutes when they scored to reduce the deficit to one try. Irish’s scrambling defence just managed to keep Brighouse from scoring and just held on to win the game 28 points to 24.

Halifax Irish Under 8s 36 - Brighouse Rangers u8s 12
Any watching Melbourne storm players couldn’t help but be impressed by the display that these two young sides put on in the curtain raiser for Halifax v Melbourne on Friday night. Brighouse started strongly pounding away at the Irish line and soon burst through to score the first try of the game. Irish soon hit back after good runs from Harry Lovelady and Andrew Amos with Lyndon Sutcliffe bursting through to score the first of his two tries. Brighouse came back strongly hammering away at the Irish line and only excellent defence from Callum Pilling and Jude Corcos kept them from scoring. The resulting turn over saw Ben Burrows take the ball up strongly then Ben Sutcliffe stepped his way to the line to score the first of his four tries. Fin Waldron was having a good game for Irish and after his powerful run Jude Corcos managed to dive over from the resulting play of the ball to score his second of the night. Brighouse again hit back scoring two well taken tries which was just reward for their efforts. Callum Pilling was next to score, sidestepping two defenders on his way to the try line .Both sides put on a dazzling display of rugby and the ferociousness of their tackling was beyond their years and was a great advert for junior rugby league. Moldgreen U8s 16 - Halifax Irish U8s 34
Irish U8’s although missing three players were soon on top; Ben Sutcliffe carving his way through the Moldgreen defence to score with his first touch of the ball. Moldgreen came back strongly but good defence from Callum Pilling and Harry Lovelady kept them from scoring then strong running from Andrew Amos created space for Callum Pilling to race round the defenders to score. Lyndon Sutcliffe was next to score for Irish running the length of the field to go over the line. Moldgreen replied straight away with a converted try .The gutsy effort from the unwell Ben Burrows was rewarded after his strong run saw Ben Sutcliffe race through to score his fifth try. After a good run from Callum Pilling, Lyndon Sutcliffe went in for his second try of the game.

Keighley u8s 4 - Halifax Irish u8s 40
Match Report- Newly formed Keighley U8s struggled against their more experienced rivals. The strong running Lyndon Sutcliffe brushed would be tacklers away on his way to the try line for the first score of the match. Callum Pilling stepped his way through for the next. Ben Burrows had a strong game driving the Keighley side back with some punishing tackles.
Andrew Amos had his best game for Irish getting through plenty of work both in attack and defence. Ben Sutcliffe and Jude Corcos kept Keighley out when they looked certain to score and combined well to send each other in for tries, Ben Sutcliffe getting his hat trick and Corcos getting two. Finley Waldron powered through two would be tacklers to round off the scoring for Irish in a good team effort.

Irish 46 - Newsome 16
Irish u8s put in a much improved defensive display to run out comfortable winners. Newsome scored the first try of the game but then it was all Irish. Lyndon Sutcliffe was again proving difficult to stop powering his way to 2 tries. Harry Lovelady and Andrew Amos ran the ball strongly and both were held up inches short, but from a quick play of the ball Jude Corcos was on hand to dive over for the first of his three tries.
Ben Burrows was having another sound game, his powerful running making dents in the Newsome defence and after one of these runs which had pulled the defenders in he gave Callum Pilling enough room to score in the corner. Ben Sutcliffe gave a clever pass to Fin Waldron which saw him race into a gap to score the first of his two tries, Waldron then repaid the favour, putting Ben Sutcliffe through for him to register his second try. Newsome came back and hammered away at the Irish line and only excellent defence from Ben Sucliffe, Jude Corcos and Callum Pilling kept the home team out.

Halifax Irish 60 - Brighouse 46
Halifax Irish u8s just edged out a spirited Brighouse side who pushed them all the way to the final whistle. Lyndon Sutcliffe was first to score for Irish, his powerful running causing the visitors problems and saw him finish the day with three tries. Ben Burrows and Harry Lovelady ran the ball up strongly and quick passing by Fin Waldron saw Ben Sutcliffe crash through two defenders to score the first of a impressive six tries and he was also on top form in defence weighing in with 22 tackles. Callum Pilling was another standout player for Halifax Irish, stopping Brighouse from scoring on several occasions with some excellent cover tackles and his elusive running enabled him to score three tries.

West Bowling 18 – Halifax Irish 44
In freezing conditions Irish ran out comfortable winners 44 points to 18. Irish opened the scoring with Jude Corcos scoring the first of his two tries both being long range efforts. Callum Pilling was back to his best and was next to score for Irish by dodging past the entire Bowling team to go over the line. Lyndon Sutcliffe’s powerful running enabled him to score his two tries with the Bowling players struggling to get him down.
Ben Burrows stood out for the Irish side in defence making some excellent bone crunching tackles, whilst being aided by Andrew Amos and Finley Waldron. Harry Lovelady , Josh Yeadon and Rhys McLain drove the ball out strongly and got good field position allowing Ben Sutcliffe to use his pace and side step to go over for 4 tries.
West Bowling never stopped trying and went in for three well deserved tries late in the game.

Halifax Irish 32 - Queensbury 12
Irish u8s did the decent thing and lent the 5 man Queensbury side 3 players to even out the sides. Irish were soon on top with Ben Sutcliffe and Jude Corcos proving difficult to stop every time they got the ball . Lyndon Sutcliffe was running strongly, as was Rhys McLain who scored his first try ever after a storming run. New players Harry Lovelady and Andrew Amos were in the thick of the action getting through plenty of work in both attack and defence. Ben Burrows and Callum Pilling had fine games both scoring tries .Josh Yeadon took the Top Tackler award with a sound display getting through a mountain of work. Finley Waldron scored a brace of tries to add to his impressive tally for the season proving hard to stop every time he had the ball. The most pleasing aspect of the game being the young Irish sides willingness to play well which ever side they were playing for.
Sunday 4th November
Moldgreen 10 - Halifax Irish 40
Match Report- Irish started strongly with Lyndon Sutcliffe brushing aside the Moldgreen tacklers to score. Moldgreen came back strongly and only stout defence by Jude Corcos , Josh Yeadon and Finley Waldron kept them from scoring . Ben Sutcliffe was running strongly and his pace enabled him to get 2 tries. Callum Pilling was proving difficult to stop and took play into the Moldgreen half where Rhys Mclain went close and then before Ben Burrows Burst onto the ball to score. Jude Corcos’s quick thinking enabled him to get to tries diving over from acting half for the second. Finley Waldron powered over to score, his direct running causing problems every time he had the ball. Andrew Amos and Harry Lovelady had excellent debut matches getting involved in every aspect of the game.
Sunday 28th October
Halifax Irish 56 – Townsville 28
Townsville produced a much improved performance to push Irish all the way in a entertaining game. Irish were their own worst enemy at times going to sleep on the last tackle allowing Townsville to score 3 tries. Ben Burrows scored his first ever try brushing aside 2 defenders on his way to the line. Jude Corcos and Ben Sutcliffe were working well together each sending the other in for tries with both boys getting 3 tries a piece. Rhys Mclain and Josh Yeadon were causing the visitors problems with their strong running. Callum Pilling was held up inches short after a 50 yard run and Lyndon Sutcliffe was on hand to crash over from the play of the ball to grab his third try. Finley Waldron scored a cracking try, bursting through the Townsville defence and out-sprinting the chasing defenders to the line.
Sunday 21st October
Newsome 6 - Halifax Irish 50
Irish started the game strongly with Rhys Mclain and Ben Burrows tackling furiously in the middle of the field, and then when Newsome tried to get around the Irish defence, Jude Corcos and Ben Sutcliffe were on hand to bundle them in to touch.
Finley Waldron took play into the Newsome half and then Lyndon Sutcliffe burst on to the ball to score the first of his 2 tries. Josh Yeadon was next to score after Lyndon Sutcliffe offloaded in the tackle.
The rest of the game went the same way where Irish were too quick and strong for the Newsome side. Ben Sutcliffe was having another good game with his pace and vision helping him to get four tries. Jude Corcos, not to be outdone, scored a hat trick of tries and Finley Waldron got a well deserved try to reward all his strong running.
Sunday 14th October
Halifax Irish U8s 44 - Siddal U8s 28
Irish were made to work hard for their win against a spirited Siddal side. Fin Waldron and Ben Burrows made some punishing runs to get Siddal on the back foot and good work from Jude Corcos saw Ben Sutcliffe outsprint the defence for the first of his four tries.
Siddal quickly replied with a try of their own, which seemed to wake Irish up and after Rhys Mclean and Josh Yeadon made telling runs, Jude Corcos went over. Irish managed to hold Siddal out on their next set and after a good run from Ben Sutcliffe, Jude Corcos went over and minutes later after Josh Yeadon was held up inches short of the line, Corcos dived over for his hat trick. The pick of the Irish tries went to Finley Waldron who was on hand to take the ball after it had been passed through the entire Irish teams hands.
Sunday 30th September
Halifax Irish U8s 34 – West Bowling U8s 4
Halifax Irish Under 8’s continued their winning ways with a great defensive effort throughout the team beating West Bowling 34 points versus 4. The experience of the team helped with confident plays which led to seven well worked tries aided by the team work of Rhys McLain and Ben Burrows. Ever present Finley Waldron scored a fantastic individual try and was awarded with the Coaches Award for his all round performance. Callum Pilling was awarded the Top Tackler for his hard work in defence; he also showed great skills scoring a hat-trick of tries. Man of the Match Jude Corcos also scored a hat trick with some quick thinking and balance to dance through the Bowlings defence. West Bowling played to the final whistle and pulled a try back of their own on the last pass of the game. Liam Tighett being the try scorer. The Irish goals were successfully kicked by Jude Corcos, Joshua Yeadon and Lyndon Sutcliffe. A great match performance by all.
Sunday 23rd September
Queensbury U8s 34 - Halifax Irish U8s 58
Halifax Irish started strongly going down the slope with good drives from Fin Waldron and Lyndon Sutcliffe. Ben Sutcliffe hit the ball up and burst through the Queensbury defence to score the first of his four tries. Jude Corcos was next to get on the score sheet, using his pace to round the Queensbury defence. Josh Yeadon was causing Queensbury problems around the ruck and after one of his jinking runs, Callum Pilling was able to go in at the corner for the first of his 2 tries. Queensbury responded strongly and scored the next 2 tries and would have had more but for good defence where Rhys McLain and Ben Burrows were working overtime. Fin Waldron was next to score for the Irish, handing two players off before going over the line and Jude Corcos rounded off the scoring for the Irish after skilfully completing a run round with Ben Sutcliffe, that foxed the Queensbury defence to allow him to go over untouched for his hat trick.
Sunday 16th September
Halifax Irish U8's played 3 games in the rugby festival at Brighouse. Irish won all 3 games. Firstly overcoming Moldgreen 6 Tries to 0. Josh Yeadon scoring his first ever try with a 50 metre effort and Lyndon Sutcliffe powering through to score. Ben Sutcliffe weighed in with 2 well taken tries. Jude Corcos and Fin Waldron scored one a piece. In the second game, Irish beat Newsome 6 tries to 2. Callum Pilling was proving unstoppable and scored 2 tries. Ben Sutcliffe again got 2, Jude Corcos 1 and Lyndon Sutcliffe 1. Halifax Irish's final game was against the other unbeaten side in their group, Siddal. Irish came out winners in a very even game winning 3 tries to 1. Jude Corcos, Callum Pilling, Lyndon Sutcliffe all getting one try each. It was the Irish defence that was most impressive throughout the morning. Ben Sutcliffe and Jude Corcos were outstanding and were ably backed up by Ben Burrows who was playing his first game of rugby, and was in at every tackle. Rhys Mclain another new player, tackled anybody that came near him. Birthday boy Fin Waldron and Josh Yeadon are improving by the week. Lyndon Sutcliffe, who turned up to play full of cold, is going to be a handful for any team that he faces. Sunday 9th September
Townville U8s 6 - Halifax Irish U8s 48
Townville started strongly but were shocked by the ferocious Irish defence where all the team played their part in keeping Townville from scoring. Fin Waldron and Callum Pilling drove the ball strongly to set up a good field position before Lyndon Sutcliffe burst through to score the first of his three tries. Jude Corcos was outstanding in defence and his pace saw him get three tries also. Josh Yeadon set up the next score with a darting run. Then a quick play of the ball saw Ben Sutcliffe weave his way through for the first of his two tries. Townville scored a well worked try in the corner and would have had more but for the great defence of the Irish. Rhys McLain, playing his first game of rugby looked like a seasoned pro driving the ball in, and weighed in with numerous tackles. To provide even more quality, Irish converted all of their 8 tries to give an outstanding 48 points to 6 win.
